Custom backyard retreat offers private sanctuary

This featured poolside sanctuary incorporates an array of Terra Summer’s diverse solutions — from our louvered pergola, to our motorized screen systems — to turn this space into an outdoor retreat; one meant to help these clients escape from their busy lives, whenever they open their backdoor.

This urban dwelling boasts a generous backyard oasis, complete with an in-ground pool, hot tub and grilling patio, yet the homeowners wanted to add privacy to their suburban environment and create continuity in their outdoor experience. They hoped to extend the livable area of their home, creating a shelter from the elements while preserving the ability to access full sun and a natural outdoor feel. Our Terra Summer design specialists worked with these clients to create a fully customized outdoor refuge to offer them a reprieve, day or night.

The Motorized Dura Louvered Pergola, seen in this project, provides privacy and shelter from sun and rain, while its adjustable function allows guests to shift from partial to full coverage at the touch of a button. The louvered blades offer ventilation on warm days and insulation in cool weather. Because the blades provide an interlocking fit, they ensure a complete seal against sun, rain and wind.

Terra Summer pergolas are available in a variety of colours to compliment a contemporary backdrop, and the structure in this project is seen with a dark brown frame and ivory roof to blend into the architecture of the home. This custom design matched the lines of the structure with the width of the house’s existing trim to create a flawless finish.

This pergola is constructed from durable aluminum, making it resistant to wear and requiring minimal maintenance so the clients can focus on enjoying their time outdoors. 

Terra Summer’s Dura Motorized Screens, also seen in this project, allow this structure to morph from an open, airy shelter to a completely enclosed room. This fully automated system is operated by a wireless remote, and these screens provide shade, wind and bug protection, as well as privacy on demand. With a flush fit from frame to ground, the walls of the structure can individually lift or be drawn as needed throughout the day to follow or block sun, wind and onlookers while leaving as much of the structure open as guests choose. 

Luxury is elevated even further with the addition of Infratech Slimline Quartz heaters, mounted discreetly along the upper frame of the pergola, to provide adjustable warmth throughout the seasons. The dining table and chairs set completes the design of this area as an elegant space for the clients to enjoy hosting brunches with friends, dinners from the grill and patio celebrations all year long.
